Where it came from matters
Provenance Design Co is a made-to-order parametric studio. We build heirloom objects that carry the place, the maker, and the hour they were finished into the room they live in.
The Makers
Provenance was founded in Houston by Joshua Jensen and Daniel. We started from a simple frustration: the wall art you can buy is either mass-produced stock or one-off commissions priced like commissions. Neither fit how we wanted to live with objects.
So we built a parametric design system that sits between the two. Every piece is made-to-order, configured across place, shape, species, finish, size, and terrain detail, then hand-finished in our Houston workshop. The system carries the work; the hands carry the soul.
We started with topographic wall art carved from real terrain because place is something almost everyone has a strong feeling about. Frames, engravings, slat pieces, and desk accessories follow. Same studio, same parametric discipline, same walnut.
The Values
Design First
The configurator is the product. If the design system is rigorous, the physical object inherits that rigor. We will not ship a piece our system cannot produce honestly.
Built to Last
Solid walnut, joined and finished by hand. We size hardware, joinery, and finish so the piece outlasts the wall it hangs on.
Honest Craft
No stock photography, no fake testimonials, no rendered piece passed off as a real one. Until we can show real work, the page stays empty.
Intentionally Small
Two founders, one workshop, one species today. Growth follows what the workshop can finish well, not what the demand will absorb.
Philosophy
Provenance sits inside a longer conversation about craft. The frame is Richard Sennett's argument that the maker is shaped by the making; the discipline is Japanese Shokunin Kishitsu, the obligation of a craftsperson to contribute the very best work; the politics is William Morris's insistence that ordinary objects should be worth living with; the end is Aristotle's telos, every piece configured for the room and the life it will inhabit.
Design objects worthy of their origin story.
